Leroy Houston returns to the Rec on short-term deal
Bath Rugby is delighted to confirm that Leroy Houston has returned to the Recreation Ground on a short-term deal. The deal has been agreed after two of Bath’s no 8 options, David Denton and Taulupe Faletau, were both injured during the season opener against Northampton at Franklin’s Gardens. Denton, whose torn hamstring required surgery, is expected to be out for 4 months whilst Faletau could miss up to 2 months of action having suffered a medial knee ligament injury. Faletau, who joined the club from Newport Gwent Dragons this summer, was replaced 12 minutes into the 18-14 win against the Saints.

The back-rower left Bath in the summer having agreed a move to Queensland Reds in the hope of furthering his international career with Australia. However, now the Super Rugby season has finished, Houston has been released to join his old club until the end of October, meaning he will be back for the start of Queensland’s pre-season in November. It is understood that the Reds agreed to loan Houston back to Bath as a return of the goodwill shown toward the no. 8, after Bath allowed Houston to leave his contract a year early and sign for the Reds.
Todd Blackadder, Director of Rugby, commented: “We’re very excited for Leroy to be coming back to the Club for a couple of months to give us some cover whilst we have a few injuries, and we’re really thankful to Queensland for helping make this happen.
“He’s a fantastic character and a brilliant player, and because he knows the place so well, we know he’ll settle straight back in and be a real asset for us.”
