Avonfield Gardens, now based on Marsh Road in Hilperton, is looking forward to another great year on its developing and expanding site.
Avonfield Gardens is the kind of place real gardeners absolutely love. Not only does it have a huge selection of plants to choose from, but the space is devoted purely to gardening. From plants to seeds, compost to tools, it has everything for the garden and nothing else.
The quality of plants is second to none. As well as growing a large number of plants themselves, they also source their plants and shrubs from a selection of tried and tested nurseries throughout the UK. “We know who does what best after dealing with them for years and we also see the plants before we buy so we can pick up the healthiest and strongest specimens,” says director Matthew Webb. “We buy from the best so our customers end up with healthy, strong plants. That way we end up with happy customers. It’s a simple recipe for success but it serves us well!” Matthew and his co director James Vincent have been in the trade for many years and employ a simple methodology when giving advice to customers: keep it simple. Matthew explains, “A young couple who have just moved into a new house will usually want attractive, low maintenance plants that will brighten up the place, so we’ll give them advice offering the appropriate plants with the necessary instructions. We can make up baskets and containers to order and we stock packs of plants that go well together, which is a great way for less experienced gardeners to get going on a new border. On the other hand we are also happy to offer advice to the more technically minded gardeners who want a more challenging display.”
Right now, as the chances of overnight frost fades, is a great time in to pop in for a supply of vegetable plug plants, including beans, lettuce, spinach, chard and more. They have strawberry plants aplenty too. As well as growing your own, now is an ideal time to take a look at their large and varied range of herbaceous perennials, although equally you may be looking to direct sow some annuals, or arrange a seasonal bedding display. Whatever you need, you’re sure to find it, and much more, at Avonfield Gardens.
